Ask anyone – they can describe their exact surroundings when they heard the World Trade Towers had been hit. I am obviously no different. I was 14 years old and in 8th grade. Second period [Pre-Algebra w/ Mr. Kemp] was just about to begin ..we walked into the classroom and saw the horrific site of the North tower in flames, hearing it had been struck by an airplane. As we watched ..we saw the second plane strike the South tower. My feelings on that day, that year – pure shock. You see those types of indescribable things happen in movies, but never imagine it happening in real life. I saw pictures & videos on TV, but could not wrap my head around what had actually happened.
I never would have thought 10 years ago today, I would be living so close to the World Trade Center site. Less than 1 mile across the Hudson River from where I live ..Ground Zero.
Every weekday I take a train under the Hudson River to the WTC site. I walk past the construction of the Freedom Towers and the WTC memorial ..to my office, literally blocks away. I know from living here almost a year ..New Yorkers are resilient. They will never forget what happened on that day 10 years ago ..but they will not dwell & they will not live in fear.
I went for a walk today and took some pictures ..
The Jersey City 9/11 memorial …
I was beginning to walk back when I saw an American flag fly over the WTC site. My favorite ..
Thank you to all who serve our country. Thank you to all the police officers & fire fighters who keep our city safe. The bravery & the lives of those lost on 9/11/01 will never be forgotten.
